Yesterday was cold but today was colder. It was 5 degrees when Jeremy and I started. It would be much colder higher and with an arctic blast on the way it would be even colder by the afternoon. We headed up the ski slopes.

Part way up we passed this lodge, a definite stopping place for the way back.

We didn't linger and immediately headed down to the safety of the trees.

We dropped down to the Appalachian Trail.

A small herd path (20 feet)off the main trail led to a viewpoint looking south.

Spaulding became more impressive as we got closer.

Spaulding has a nice but limited view from the summit.

In the photo below, I pretended to be upset that the elevation was only 3988. I paid for a 4000 footer.

A few feet of snowpack help get us slightly above some of the trees for a better view.

We stopped at the lodge to warm up before descending the remainder of the mountain.
