I've got one more day where I'm on call at work, so once again I need to stay close to home. Lynn and I decided to do a little local geocaching. After finding a couple roadside caches, I decided to head up Bear Mountain. Lynn stayed by the lake as I headed off.

The info on the Internet said there was a trailhead here, but I couldn't find it. I started bushwhacking my up the very steep mountain when I finally stumbled across the trail. I followed the trail up to the open ledges.

Here's the view to the south.

Here's the view to the southwest with Pleasant Mountain in the background.

I found the geocache, my 17th find.
I wasn't quite at the top of the mountain so I continued on, passing an old, old, old car.

I was surprised to find a home near the 1068' summit.
They have a gorgeous view. What a nice spot for a home!

I returned over the same route. I lost the trail at the same place I found it which forced me to finish my descent by bushwhacking. This was a very steep mountain and the slippery, autumn leaves made it especially tricky. There is a big snowstorm on the way tonight, so this will probably be my last hike without snow until spring.

FYI -When I got home I read the geocache page a little more thoroughly and found these directions to the trailhead.

The trail head is about 50 yds up the road from the parking, across the street from several cabins which are on the opposite side of the road from the mountain.
