Now that I have my cool GPS from Delorme, it's time to start tracking some of the lakes, ponds, and streams of Maine. Maine may not have 10,000 lakes like Minnesota, but I bet it's close to that. Today's kayak trip will be to North Pond. Here's the track from my GPS.
At times it looks like my kayak trip brought me across land. Sometimes the GPS is only accurate to about 10-20 meters. This means if I am close to shore, it may appear that I am on the shore. Also, some of the water ways in my approach to the lake are very narrow and through marsh land which appears as land on the map.

There are a lot of ponds named North Pond in Maine. This is the one just north of Lake Pennessewasee (Norway Lake). I parked by the small dam on the northwest corner of the pond . . .
. . . where I put my kayak in the water.

Here we go, out into the open part of the pond.

It was a perfect day to be on the pond. The water was calm, and there were no boats this evening.

Dozens of summer cottages and camps dot the shore line.

I'm surprised this is called a pond. It is definitely large enough to be a lake.

There's more than one way to get around the pond.

The northern most portion of the pond was filled with reeds so I didn't bother exploring that section.
